SUCCESS
Strengthening and Upgrading Croatia’s Communicable Disease Surveillance System (SUCCESS) is a project that is being carried out by the Croatian Institute of Public Health (CIPH), the main beneficiary of this project, and by the Croatian Ministry of Health (MoH-HR) and the Croatian Health Insurance Fund (CHIF), both as affiliated entities. Aim and objectives of this project are to enhance national surveillance of infectious diseases in order to close the gaps of our epidemiological surveillance, all in line with the Regulation (EU) 2022/2371 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 November 2022 on serious cross-border threats to health and repealing Decision No 1082/2013/EU.
Within the scope of the project, our enhancement will be focused mainly in three areas: comprehensive surveillance system in general, integrated surveillance of respiratory infections, and laboratory surveillance as a complementary system. Thus, the work plan is organised in two types of work packages: one horizontal WP impacting the entire project, and three vertical (pertaining to specific areas of expertise in the scope of this project).
The horizontal work package:
- WP1 – Overall project management and coordination, which will establish the appropriate management structure for the implementation of the project, including the coordination and monitoring of the overall progress of the different tasks of the project
The vertical work packages are the following:
- WP2 – Improving and upgrading digitalized national notification/reporting system for infectious diseases, enhancing Croatia’s national notification system for communicable diseases by improving informatization and digitalization while including new functionalities and sources of data collection;
- WP3 – Integrated surveillance of respiratory infections, establishing a resilient, interoperable and sustainable Croatia’s national surveillance system for respiratory infections and respiratory pathogens with public health implications;
- WP4 – Complementary laboratory surveillance system, implementing mandatory laboratory reporting and surveillance of certain infectious diseases of public health interest.
During the project implementation, the Croatian Institute of Public Health will actively collaborate with national stakeholders, the European Commission (EC) and the European Agency for Health and Digital Technologies (HaDEA).
The SUCCESS project will contribute to strengthening the capacities for monitoring and prevention of infectious diseases in Croatia and, more broadly, to the European framework for managing cross-border health threats.
