Mental Health Toolkit for Human Resources Managers in the Workforce (MH4HRM)

Mental Health Toolkit for Human Resources Managers in the Workforce (MH4HRM) is a project funded through the Erasmus+ programme, launched in December 2023. The project involves partners from Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, and Croatia.

The project aims to empower human resources personnel and other stakeholders in workplace health protection to effectively manage employee mental health issues by providing them with appropriate knowledge, skills, and tools to understand mental health challenges and promote employee well-being in the workplace.

The objectives of the project are to:

  • understand the basic characteristics of the most common mental health difficulties and problems in the workplace, as well as their impact on work processes and the work environment.
  • provide information to improve knowledge and skills for managing mental health issues in companies across the European Union.
  • train human resources professionals and other stakeholders in workplace health protection to recognize common mental disorders at an early stage, as well as psychosocial workplace risks, through an online training programme developed specifically for this purpose and target group.
  • empower human resources teams and other workplace health professionals to effectively manage employee mental health issues by providing adequate knowledge, skills, and tools to promote employee well-being.
  • present strategies for better integration of individuals with mental health challenges into the work environment and for managing mental health issues from prevention to return-to-work after prolonged absence.
  • provide digital tools for accessing information on workplace well-being to create an environment where mental health issues can be discussed openly.

The Croatian Institute of Public Health participates in this project as a partner responsible for one of the key activities – developing a 60-hour training programme for human resources professionals and other stakeholders in workplace health protection. The programme includes knowledge and “soft skills” for managing mental health issues in the workplace, as well as real-life case studies and examples of good practice.

The project places significant importance on the use of digital technologies that facilitate reaching a large number of users. Key project outputs include a developed web/mobile platform and online training programme, microlearning videos, and podcasts covering mental health topics in the workplace.

Project duration: 30 months (01/12/2023 – 31/05/2026)

Total project value: 400,000 EUR

Project lead for the Croatian Institute of Public Health: Helena Koren, MA in Psychology
