8th Meeting of the WHO European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative was held in Dubrovnik, Croatia 18-20 May 2015

Following welcoming speeches by Sanja Music Milanovic from the Croatian National Institute of Public Health, João Breda from WHO Regional Office for Europe, Davor Stimac, President of the Croatian Society for Obesity of the Croatian Medical Association, Andro Vlahusic Mayor of Dubrovnik, Vedran Mornar, Minister of Science Education and Sports and a video message by Minister of Health Sinisa Varga the meeting continued covering subjects of Conclusions of the Latvian presidency High Level Conference on Healthy Lifestyles, European Food and Nutrition Action Plan 2015-2020 and the forthcoming European Physical Activity Strategy 2016-2025 as well as updates on the EU Action Plan on Childhood Obesity and on the Commission on Ending Childhood Obesity (ECHO) and GloboDiet Initiative.

On the second day of the meeting WHO-COSI results of the 3rd data collection round and review progress of the preparations for the 4th COSI data collection round were presented and a revision and validation of different templates/questionnaires was conducted. WHO presented on its support to data collection, analysis, reporting, expansion and sustainability of COSI.

The final day of the meeting was devoted to exploring synergies with the Schools for Health Network (SHE), Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) and other ongoing initiatives/research projects finishing with a WHO publication schedule of the results of the 3rd round and preparatory work for the trend analysis – An update on the WHO COSI next report and journal articles.
