WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF THE CROATIAN NATIONAL CANCER REGISTRY!“

Cancer is a major public health problem in Croatia. It is of great importance to have adequate data that can contribute to the development of a cancer prevention strategy and adequate oncological service because cancer is second only to cardiovascular diseases as the most common cause of death. Only a well organized cancer registration can make such data available.

Cancer incidence and mortality in Croatia are monitored and studied by the National Cancer Registry, a population registry at the Croatian National Institute of Public Health. The National Cancer Registry was founded in 1959. Electronic data processing was introduced in 1968.

In 1994, The Croatian National Cancer Registry became a full member of the International Association of Cancer Registries (IACR) in Lyon, France. By being admitted to the European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR), it entered the European Cancer Incidence and Mortality Database (EUROCIM).

Croatian National Cancer Registry data have been published in IARC publications ''Cancer Incidence on Five Continents'' Vol. VII (1988-92), Vol. VIII (1993-97), and Vol. IX (1998-2002).
